Mother Delivers Baby in Parking Lot of Bronx Lebanon Hospital
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Bronx family's mini van became a birthing room on Tuesday.
Terry Sheridan reports
Johanna Melo's due date was Monday. She had been in the hospital a few times before but had been released. Melo had pains this morning, so she decided to head to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. She and her husband Orlando packed their kids into the van and were planning on dropping them off at school on the way to the hospital.
They never made it past Fordham Road.
With some coaching from her sister, Melo delivered the baby before pulling into the EMT dock at Bronx Lebanon Hospital.
Two paramedics ran to the van and saw that the baby, named Miah, had been delivered. They checked the baby and mother and brought them both inside.
Johanna and Miah are both doing well.
